On October 11, 2024, at 8:29 am, the Grey Bruce OPP received a report that a pedestrian was struck on Highway 10 North of Markdale in Chatsworth Township.
The investigation revealed that a school bus was stopped with its lights activated and stop sign extended and a vehicle failed to stop and struck a 13-year-old youth who was crossing the road. The pedestrian received minor injuries.
As a result, a 63-year-old from Toronto was charged with the following:
Drivers are reminded to slow down when you see a school bus and give it plenty of space, as it could come to a stop at any time. Remember, failing to stop for a stopped school bus that has its flashing red lights engaged is a serious offence. For a first-time offence, you can be fined from $400 to $2,000 and have six demerit points added to your license.
