BY SHARON WICKENS — On Saturday, August 21, the Eugenia Community came out to support house fire victims, Ted & Ruth Turner at a community yard sale held in the Eugenia Highland United Church yard. This event was organized by Highland United Church, Hawthorns Cottages, Valarie Quackenbush and Sharon Wickens. We are so delighted to report that over $3,000 was raised at this event to help the Turners with daily living expenses. The fire left them with only the clothes on their back and their beloved pets (dog & cat).

Many people from the community brought items on Friday and Saturday for this event as well as making cash donations to the Turners. They wanted to help in some way — as one visitor said, "How devastating it would be to lose everything!"
A special thank-you goes out to those who donated items, helped to set up and clean up, and volunteered during the yard sale.
People and businesses that donated items for the Silent Auction included Ashley Lowe Honey, Brilliant Bread, Hawthorns Cottages, Flesherton Home Hardware, Ideal Supply in Flesherton, Mama Chars General Store in Priceville, Nina & Paul Thompson, Maw's Pickles, Sharon Wickens and Shywolf Candles in Flesherton. Special thanks to Grey Highlands Fire Department who promoted fire safety at this event.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
