Markdale resident, Mary Vandersluis wins 50,000 with Instant Crossword

Mary Vandersluis winner of 50,000

Mary Vandersluis of Markdale is celebrating after winning a $50,000 top prize with Instant Crossword.

Mary, who works in the health care industry, has played the lottery occasionally for decades and says Instant Crossword and Bingo are her favourite games. "I get lots of entertainment from playing these tickets," she shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings.

The 67-year-old mother and grandmother says she discovered her win early one morning while having a coffee. "I thought I made a mistake somewhere on the ticket. I checked it using the OLG app and saw I won $50,000 — I was shocked!" she said. "My heart was pounding! I never dreamed I would experience a big win."

Mary plans to treat herself and her husband to a new hot tub and will complete some home renovations. “I feel so grateful,” she concluded.

Instant Crossword is available for $3 a play and the top prize is $50,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.91.

The winning ticket was purchased at Sunny & Moon on Toronto Street in Markdale.

OLG supports safe play and wants to keep the fun in the game. That’s why OLG is proud to be a leader in promoting responsible gambling with our globally recognized PlaySmart program.
