West Grey Library announces their summer programs for all

West grey Public Library logo

Fun starts afresh this summer — and West Grey Library is with you all the way! Library staff hope to welcome patrons and visitors into the buildings in Stage 2, starting in July with Ayton and Neustadt branches. Meantime, there’s something afoot outside, virtually and at home all summer and all programs, as always, are free.

The Library’s alive with a variety of activities for kids and families: children and youth up to 18 can be part of the TD Summer Reading Program, a great way to keep reading skills up during the summer. Register with kids@westgreylibrary.com. Read books, keep a reading log, enter for prizes.

Kids 5 and up will enjoy the Library’s Grab & Go Bags, with a new craft each week until August 20th, first-come, first-served while supplies last. Set up a curbside appointment for pick-up by calling 519-369-2107.

The Library’s Storywalk lets families have a leisurely ramble and read a story on large storyboards as they go. For July 1 to 31, the Walk is in Durham at the Riverside Park – start from the public parking lot beside the Credit Union and follow the path towards the lower dam.

The Explore West Grey scavenger hunt is running to August 31 is for all ages, a chance for families to learn more about this lovely area – request a brochure through kids@westgreylibrary.com and get out there!

There are also weekly LEGO challenges for kids and weekly Teen Book Quizzes — check out the Library’s Facebook and Instagram accounts for the challenge each week. If someone is interested but doesn’t have a social media account, contact kids@westgreylibrary.com for entry information.

For adults, The Library’s Summer Book Bingo starts in July — get your card now and get reading to fill in the squares and get yourself a bingo! Truly tiny prizes! And Roaming Readers continue, with an amiable stroll once a month as participants chat about their latest reads — nothing but positive comments from our first outing! Meet at Durham branch at 2 pm on the last Thursday of the month, rain or shine. Walk all or part of the route. Call or email to confirm attendance at 519-369-2107, kimm@westgreylibrary.com so they don’t leave without you!

The Creative Habit also continues, a virtual series to get you thinking more creatively and problem-solving creativity and gives participants ways to incorporate problem-solving and idea-generating into commonplace situations. A new session is released on the Library’s social media (check YouTube and Facebook) on the 4th Saturday of the month.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
