A momentous occasion took place on September 6 and 7 across southwestern Ontario for the annual Walk for Parkinson’s. This year also marked the 30th anniversary, highlighting how much the Parkinson's community has grown since the very first Walk.
With the dedication and support of the Parkinson’s community, people came together at local parks and trails to honour a friend or family member living with Parkinson’s. The event featured entertainment, food, prizes, and a spirit of stepping up for a meaningful cause.
This year’s Walk raised over $540,000, with every dollar going directly to provide essential support services for those living with Parkinson’s.
The Parkinson Society of Southwestern Ontario (PSSO) sent out heartfelt gratitude to the many incredible volunteer teams across the region. Their tireless efforts, from setup and planning to promotion, organization, and cleanup, made the Walk a seamless and memorable experience for all. "We could not have done it without them. Volunteers are truly the heartbeat of PSSO, and we deeply appreciate everything they've done to stand beside the Parkinson’s community."
The organization also thanked everyone who participated on event day. "Together, we created a day full of support, connection, and hope for those living with Parkinson’s. We are also deeply grateful to our generous sponsors, whose partnership helped bring us all together and added joy to the event with their contributions to the prize draws."
All funds raised go directly to assisting local programs, services, and networks that make a meaningful difference.
The Walk is more than a fundraising event — it’s a message to all Canadians living with Parkinson’s: "We are here for you, no matter where you are or what stage of your journey you’re on. You are never alone."
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
