BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — Easter Egg Hunts were back in swing this weekend as gathering restrictions have been lifted across the Grey Bruce region. It was a chilly Saturday but kids didn't take much notice as they gathered up the spoils of this community event.
Durham
For the first time since 2019, the West Grey Durham Lion's Club held its popular Easter egg Hunt at Spruce Ridge Community School in Durham.
It was a mad dash for the goodies as approximately 200 people attended the event. Between 18-20,000 foil-wrapped chocolate eggs and Easter candies were scattered across two school fields, sectioned off to accommodate three separate age groups — under 5, ages 6-9 and 10+.
The Durham Fire Department was on hand to watch over the traditional holiday scrimmage.
The Easter Bunny arrived to greet kids and pose for pictures.
Markdale
Despite the wind and cold temperatures kids and parents travelled to the soccer fields behind the Markdale Fire Hall after a two year hiatus. This Easter Egg hunt was presented by the Rotary Club of Markdale as in past years. A big crowd of eager children gathered around the roped off age-designated areas waiting for the count-down. Free ice cream bars were donated by Chapman's Ice Cream and distributed after the scramble.
As soon as the children got the go-ahead they scrambled for the goodies.
It didn't take long for children to gather up the goods.
