From coast to coast, Canada’s culinary and cultural identity takes centre stage in TASTED HERE — a bold new food and travel series premiering Wednesday, August 6 at 8 pm on CHCH. Each week, TASTED HERE visits a different region of Canada to uncover the local pride, flavours, and people behind the plate — from Indigenous chefs reclaiming tradition, to wineries rooted in generations of passion, to iconic producers who’ve become part of the national story.
Markdale, Ontario is featured in Episode 3, airing August 20, with a spotlight on some of the province’s proudest culinary exports: world-class wineries, Indigenous food creators, and one of Canada’s most beloved ice cream brands, Markdale’s and Grey County’s own Chapman's Ice Cream.
“We set out to tell stories of Canadian pride,” says Ellen Douglas, Senior Producer of TASTED HERE. “In Ontario, it’s in the vineyards, it’s in the kitchens of chefs reclaiming culture, and it’s in the small-town factories that make comfort food for the whole country. There’s a deep sense of purpose and pride in every bite.”
Filmed in just six months across the country, TASTED HERE isn’t just about what’s on the table — it’s about the people, the land, and the legacy behind it.
The series explores everything from Nova Scotia’s lobster boats and BC’s coastal bounty to prairie farmers markets and Northern traditions — all stitched together by a common thread: pride of place.
TASTED HERE airs exclusively in Canada on CHCH, Wednesdays at 8 pm. A global streaming release is set to follow later this year.
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
