Hanover Police arrest suspect after pursuit and foot chase

Hanover Police badge

On Saturday, May 24, 2025, shortly before 10 pm, Hanover Police officers attempted to stop a suspect operating a motorcycle at the north end of 12th Avenue in the Town of Hanover. The suspect failed to stop for police and fled at a high rate of speed, turning onto the community trail at 14th Street.

Shortly after turning onto the community trail, the suspect lost control of the motorcycle and crashed. He continued to flee on foot from the crash site, before being arrested by the pursuing officers a short distance away.

A 40-year-old West Grey man was held for a bail hearing and later remanded into custody charged with 10 criminal offences that included Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation, Resisting Arrest, Wearing a Disguise with Intent, Breach of Probation, Breach of Undertaking and Driving While Prohibited x 4. He also faces 7 additional traffic, insurance and cannabis related charges including Driving without Insurance, Driving Under Suspension, Unnecessary Noise, Driving with Cannabis in Open Baggage and more.

The suspect remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Walkerton court to answer to his charges. The vehicle was impounded by police.

Fleeing from the police is reckless, dangerous and puts the lives of innocent people at risk. Those who engage in such behaviour can face consequences that include jail sentences, fines and further suspensions.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
