The Southgate Public Library is brewing up a cauldron of Halloween fun this October, with a mix of spooky, silly, and creative events for all ages. From blacklight mysteries to pumpkin punch prizes, there’s something for every ghost and goblin in the community.
Little ones can kick off the season at Spooky Story Time on October 15 at 6 p.m., where ages 3–7 are invited to gather around for indoor campfire tales and a fun activity. Families can also drop by for our annual PD Day Halloween Crafts and a Scavenger Hunt on October 24 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m., wear your costumes and participate in seasonal creativity and fun!
For older kids and teens, the library has some thrills up its sleeve. The Black Light Scavenger Hunt (October 23–24) invites teams to solve glowing clues in a Halloween-themed mystery room. Work in teams of 2–3 (ages 10–18) or bring the family: 2 adults with 2 kids (ages 7–12). Teens in Grades 6–12 can also join a Halloween Paint Night on October 30 at 6 p.m., where a ghostly canvas awaits. And all month long, YA readers can take part in Spin to Sin Halloween, where checking out YA books earns a chance to spin the prize wheel, punch into the Pumpkin Punch Wall, or test your knowledge with Halloween trivia.
Adults don’t have to miss out on the fun either. Those with a crafty side can book a Cricut 1-on-1 session to design their very own trick-or-treat bag — materials included! And if your spooky spirit shines brightest at night, gather your team of ghouls for Scream and Stream Trivia Night on October 17 at 7 p.m.. Expect creepy pop culture, haunted tech, monster media, and more — with plenty of screams (and laughs) along the way. Adults and families with children ages 7 and up are welcome!
With so many ways to celebrate, the library promises October will be anything but ordinary. Whether you’re solving mysteries under black light, painting ghosts, or spinning for tricks and treats, the Southgate Public Library is the place to be this Halloween season.
