Southgate Chapter of the Grey Bruce South Asian Association launched in Dundalk

Southgate Chapter of the Grey Bruce South Asian Association event

BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — The newly-formed Southgate Chapter of the Grey Bruce South Asian Association (GBSAA) was launched at the Erskine Centre in Dundalk on the afternoon of Sunday, September 24.

The event was under the umbrella of the Rise Up and Soar (RUAS) Community, a registered charity dedicated to serving the needs of the local community. The group works to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all, offering a wide range of programs and services from free youth programs to organizing cultural events and workshops.

The mission of the GBSAA fits quite well with the RUAS mandate — to strengthen our community bonds and celebrate the rich heritage of South Asian culture. The gathering was created to celebrate South Asian heritage, share stories, and build lasting memories.

Bringing the message of strong community bonds, several speakers from various organizations took to the stage. Representatives from Captain Real Estate, Dundalk Agriculture Society, Dundalk Proton School and RUAS community volunteers added to the amazing conversation about the community.

The afternoon was resplendent with cultural exchange, networking, South Asian music, and refreshments.

"The RUAS Community believes 'Together, We Rise. Together, We Soar.' and by coming together, we can create a stronger, more unified community that embraces diversity and fosters togetherness," said Monica Soares, Southgate Councillor and local RUAS founder.

More events are in the planning stages as this new group of Southgate community volunteers gets its mojo. On the last Sunday of every month, RUAS will hold cultural events open to people from every background. These events will be an opportunity to learn something new and for people of diverse backgrounds to practice what they love, communally.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
