Attention book lovers, don't miss the second annual Grey County Reads Winter Bookfest

2023 Grey County Reads Winter Bookfest

BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — Nestle in for a good dose of books, baked treats and hot beverages on Saturday, March 4 — a great way to beat the winter blues. The second annual Grey County Reads Winter Bookfest will happen at Annesley United Church in Markdale. It will be the first live in-person event of its brief two-year history and will feature 15 local authors, publishers and resellers.

South Grey News will host the event. Prose and poetry readings as well as pitches from this year's Grey County Reads book champions fill out a schedule of performances that will also include music by Paige Warner.

It's a chance to meet local writers and get personally-signed copies of some of the best local books. Visitors can browse many hard-to-find titles, first editions and rare volumes too, plus bring in their own old or antiquarian books to get them expertly appraised by Antiquarian Booksellers Association of Canada member Arwen Greenwood of About Books in Owen Sound.

Admission is free with free-will donations graciously accepted. Doors open and book browsing starts at 2:00 pm with performances taking place from 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm. Registrations for the event are accepted (but not required) at Annesley United Church, Susan's Deli and Artemesia Cheese and Fine Foods or online by visiting the Annesley.events website.

The event will also be live-streamed on Youtube and recorded for later viewing.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
