Tis the season to Rise Up and Soar!

2023 RUAS Merry Christmas message brought by Santa, Mrs. Claus and an elf

Dedicated to bringing community together under the themes of diversity and inclusion, the Rise Up and Soar (RUAS) Community in Dundalk has been busy hosting various holiday events.

It was a crisp autumn evening when a vibrant and heartwarming tone was set at the Grey Bruce South Asian Association inaugural Diwali event, lighting up Dundalk on October 29. The community gathering marked a historic milestone in the area as residents, dignitaries, and sponsors came together to partake in the festivities and the spirit of unity.

The event was graced by the presence of ten esteemed dignitaries, including the Founder of RUAS Community and Southgate Councillor, Monica Singh Soares, Deputy Mayor Scott Greig from Owen Sound, Mayor Andrea Matrosovs from The Town of Blue Mountains, and MPP Rick Byers. Additionally, Councillor Joan John, Deputy Mayor Barbara Dobreen from Southgate, and Councillor Carol Hudson from Hanover added to the distinguished guest list. Mayor Brian Milne of Southgate, MP Alex Ruff, and Councillor Martin Shipston from Southgate sent their warm remarks.

Nine generous sponsors played a crucial role in making the event a success. These sponsors included Risen Image, Flato Developments Inc, Captain Real Estate, Dundalk Foodland, Falto Home, Mr. Sub, Go Direct, Country Style Donuts, and Vivid Hair Studio.

The atmosphere was filled with the vibrant colours, flavours, and traditions of Diwali, the Festival of Lights. The event hall was packed to capacity, with attendees of all backgrounds coming together to celebrate and learn about this significant cultural celebration.

One of the highlights of the evening was a captivating dance performance led by the founder of RUAS Community, Monica Singh Soares, along with Executive Director Joey Soares and Bella-Sitara Singh Soares. Their performance ignited the room, with dignitaries and residents joining in, dancing to the infectious beats.

Raffle prizes further added to the excitement, and the community connection was palpable. The event served as a platform for fostering relationships, building bridges, and celebrating the richness of diversity.

On Sunday, November 26, the Soaring Christmas-Fest brought together the community in a festive celebration that included engaging activities, heartwarming moments, and a commitment to giving back. Highlights of the event included fun games, prizes, tree decorating, festive treats, and a touching initiative where visitors wrote special messages for those less fortunate. The group also collected non-perishable items for donation.

The sponsors and donors played a significant role in making the event visually stunning with their generous decorations. The evening was filled with the joyous sounds of Christmas carols, an Ugly Sweater competition, and interactive games that fostered a strong sense of community and holiday spirit.

In addition to events, RUAS Community also run Youth Leadership Programs throughout the year. For more information, visit the Rise Up and Soar Facebook page.
