On April 24, 2024, South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) has issued the following media release:
South Bruce Grey Health Centre (SBGHC) is taking action to address the health care needs of the Durham community by providing better access to urgent/emergent care.
Effective June 3, 10 in-patient beds will relocate to the Walkerton and Kincardine sites, providing patients in need of in-patient care with more consistent, safe, and high-quality services. Nursing staff will continue working at the Durham site to support urgent/emergent care daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing the incredible care they are known for. SBGHC will work with patients and their families to make this transition as easy and seamless as possible.
“This decision has been made with our community and the patients we serve at the top of mind, with no impact to jobs,” Nancy Shaw, CEO and President of SBGHC. “Our priority is to ensure the delivery of safe and high-quality care, and we will continue to work with both the Ministry of Health and Ontario Health to ensure services are maintained across all SBGHC sites.”
This transitional step will allow SBCHC to have a greater focus on providing high-quality and reliable urgent/emergent care that reflects the needs of our community that deserve care close to home in Durham.
SBGHC also recognizes the importance of engaging with the community throughout this process. SBGHC will be hosting community engagement sessions in the coming months to facilitate open dialogue and collaboration on strategies to stabilize all four sites and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality care. Dates, times, and locations for these sessions will be communicated well in advance once confirmed.
