OPP charge two drivers with stunt driving on same day

The Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged two drivers with stunt driving.

On April 11, 2023, at 12:05 am, a Grey Bruce OPP officer was conducting patrols on Highway 10 in the Township of Southgate, when they observed a motor vehicle to be travelling in excess of 135 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the 25-year-old driver from Barrie was charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt excessive speed. The driver faces a provincial court date to answer to the charge, as well as a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day motor vehicle impoundment.

On the same day at 8:20 am, another Grey Bruce OPP officer was conducting patrols along Highway 26 in the Municipality of Meaford. The officer observed a motor vehicle to be travelling at over 140 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone.

A traffic stop was conducted, and the 60-year-old driver from Owen Sound was charged with drive motor vehicle - perform stunt excessive speed. The driver faces a provincial court date to answer to the charge, as well as a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day motor vehicle impoundment.

"For the past several years, we have continued to work with our community safety partners to address road safety throughout Grey Bruce. Stunt Driving continues to be a re occurring issue, and I can't stress enough the dangers it poses to not only the occupants of the involved motor vehicle, but to other road users as well. Our officers will continue their enforcement efforts, and motorists can expect that if they're caught stunt driving, they will be charged and held accountable for their actions." - Inspector Paul Richardson, Detachment Commander Grey Bruce OPP.
