Donors Bo and Brian Penny are no strangers to the Together In Care campaign for the new Markdale Hospital. Last year they were one of the earliest donors to step forward in support of the campaign. The Penny’s were one of the initial supporters to have a naming opportunity in the new hospital. Centre Grey Health Services Foundation (CGHSF) was incredibly honoured to have them as partners in the new hospital project.

Realizing that healthcare is important and worthy of continuous support, the Penny’s made a visit to the Foundation office this Christmas to see how they could help. Their timing was great, as the Foundation had just received the list of equipment that will be purchased for the new hospital. After going over this long list, the Penny’s once again came forward with a pledge to purchase all of the beds, the lifts and the bedside tables for all of the rooms in the new hospital.

“Knowing that hospital stays can be stressful, we wanted to somehow make everyone’s visit as comfortable as possible, so we decided to make this gift of beds and furniture. We are happy to support Centre Grey Health Services Foundation and our community and are looking forward to the grand opening of the new Markdale hospital" stated Bo and Brian Penny.

“What an amazing gift” stated Harvey Fraser, Chair of the Together In Care campaign and CGHSF. “It isn’t every day that a donor steps in to furnish every in-patient room in an entire hospital! This is their second major gift to this campaign. The assistance received from the Penny family will have a substantial impact on local health care. Our entire community will benefit from their generous support,” stated Fraser.

The two-year construction project to bring the new technologically advanced hospital to Markdale is almost 80% complete and is on track to open in late 2023 or early 2024.
