Markdale featured in TVO series Crossroads: Beyond Boom and Bust

Catherine Clarke and Dave Meslin in Susan's Deli

The TVO Original series Crossroads: Beyond Boom and Bust has featured the town of Markdale in one of its episodes — an engaging and timely story for this burgeoning town in Grey Highlands.

The episode delves into Markdale’s evolution — from its origins as a railway stop in the 1870s to its rise as a regional business hub, and the founding of Chapman’s Ice Cream in 1973, which has remained a vital employer ever since. But the heart of the episode lies in the present-day challenges the town faces.

As Markdale stands at a turning point, the community grapples with how to grow and adapt while preserving its identity. The episode captures the voices of residents who are passionate about their town’s future, yet divided on the best path forward.

It’s a thoughtful exploration of rural resilience, economic transition, and the complexities of community-driven change — perfect for audiences interested in the stories shaping Ontario’s small towns.

Starting June 27, stream the Markdale episode on digital via the TVO Docs YouTube channel, website and Smart TV app and catch the broadcast (Ontario only) at 7 pm on TVO.
