Man who drove erratically at excessive speed causing death and serious injuries sentenced to 7 years

On November 7, 2021, officers responded to stop the driver of a stolen pickup truck being operated erratically and at speeds upward of 150 km/h.

The driver ran over a tire deflation device and then struck a car travelling in the opposite direction.

The collision resulted in the death of a 40-year-old man, and serious injuries suffered by a 14-year-old girl and 26-year-old man.

As a result of the investigation a man of Kincardine Township was arrested and charged with:

  • Criminal Negligence Causing Death.
  • Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm (2 counts).
  • Robbery
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $ 5,000.00

On May 4, 2022 the accused plead guilty in the Ontario Court of Justice and was sentenced as follows:

  • 7 years Imprisonment.
  • 9 months pre-sentence custody.
  • Lifetime firearms prohibition.
  • 20 year driving prohibition.
  • Court ordered DNA sample.
