Letter to the Editor: No satisfaction for snowplowed mailbox

Broken mailbox covered in snow

LETTER TO THE EDITOR — I am writing out of complete frustration and desperation over an ongoing issue that no one in authority seems willing to address. For over a year now, my mailbox has been repeatedly destroyed by the same municipal snowplow.

I repair or replace it, follow every instruction given to me by the town, clear snow as requested — and it still gets hit again and again. This winter alone, it has already been damaged multiple times.

Each time I report it, I’m told some version of “too bad” or that it’s my responsibility to fix, even though I’ve done everything asked of me.

There has been no accountability, no inspection, no solution offered — just dismissal. I cannot continue paying out of pocket to replace something that is being destroyed through no fault of my own. I’ve exhausted every reasonable option with the town and feel completely ignored.

At this point, I don’t know who else to turn to. I’m not looking for special treatment — I’m looking for a basic, fair resolution to a problem that should never have been allowed to go on this long.

Steven Bailey,
Grey Highlands

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
