LETTER TO THE EDITOR — When I first arrived on Eugenia Lake on July 2, 1961, the lake bottom was filled with dead trees. When some of us contacted Grey Sable, we were told that we could cut the trees as long as we left a minimum of two feet for fish habitat.
Now, a group calling themself Friends of Lake Eugenia, want to charge a minimum of $130.00. This group did not ask every property owner if they wanted to take part. They did it at a board meeting, saying what they were doing and many board members did not question it further.
In my opinion, fish habitat has improved and the trees are gone.
Now the Friends of Lake Eugenia want to put alum in the lake bottom.
They say that a study on Marle Lake is ongoing but the results are not conclusive. More data is required. MY OPINION IS LET'S LEAVE LAKE EUGENIA ALONE UNTIL THE STUDY IS COMPLETE.
Also, has anyone seen the swans? We had two pairs of swans, one with two young ones, and one with four young ones. They were frequently visitors at our beach. I can only assume the numerous turtles near the causeway had a feast on the young ones. One swan broke a wing on a goose, I do not think it will make winter with the injury. Apparently, swans do not like geese.
