One individual is facing charges after being located impaired driving on an electric scooter.

On May 28, 2024, at 12:13 am, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of an impaired individual riding an electric scooter around the village of Dundalk in Southgate. The police located the individual and scooter after it had crashed into the mud and the driver was trying to get it back onto the sidewalk. As officers were speaking to the individual they were showing signs of intoxication.

As a result, a 41-year-old from Southgate was charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Being intoxicated in public place

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound on June 13, 2024.

The Grey Bruce OPP want to remind all drivers that impaired driving applies to anything that is powered by anything other than muscular power which would include motor vehicles, electric scooters, electric bicycles, and mopeds.
