Five years ago, the Centre Grey Hospital Auxiliary generously pledged $250,000 to support the new Brightshores Health System — Markdale Hospital — payable over 10 years. On October 27, year-five of that pledge was marked with celebration, as the Auxiliary has chosen to complete their payment in full, five years ahead of schedule.
Thanks to strong financial stewardship dating back to 2017 and beyond, the Auxiliary also made the remarkable decision to contribute an additional $125,000 from reserve funds to address current needs here in Markdale.

Framed pictures documented Centre Grey Hospital Foundation donations over the years.
Present among the Auxiliary’s general membership, are Auxiliary President Verna Miller and respected members of the Executive. Representing the Foundation are the Board and staff of the Centre Grey Health Services Foundation, joined by Harvey Fraser, retired Chair of the Together in Care Campaign and past Chair of the Foundation, and Darlene Lamberti, past Executive Director who guided the Foundation throughout the campaign and beyond.

Executive Director Centre Grey Health Services Foundation Reuben McCallum thanked the Auxiliary for their volunteer efforts.
“Today is about recognizing volunteers, and it’s a reminder to never to underestimate the power of volunteers supported by their community. The funds presented today reflect years of careful financial management and forward thinking by the Auxiliary, and the Foundation is proud and honoured to accept this generous gift, a gift that will fund much-needed equipment at the Brightshores Markdale site.” Reuben McCallum- Executive Director Centre Grey Health Services Foundation.
This cheque presentation marks another milestone in a decades-long partnership between the Foundation and the Auxiliary. Not long ago, we celebrated surpassing the $1 million cumulative giving milestone with the Auxiliary and is one of the foundations largest donors.
The Auxiliary continues its vital work volunteering at the hospital supporting patients while also operating both the hospital café at Brightshores Markdale and the Pennywise Thrift Shop in downtown Markdale, two beloved community staples that help make gifts like today’s possible.
