History Beyond Borders: Dr. Tim Cook Tells the Story of Canada-U.S. Wartime Alliance

Dr. Tim Cook

The Meaford Public Library and the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre will host renowned Chief Historian and Director of Research at the Canadian War Museum, Dr. Tim Cook, on Saturday, August 9 at 7 pm at the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre.

Cook’s latest book The Good Allies explores the complex relationship between Canada and the United States during the Second World War moving from weary rivals to constant allies.

When war broke out in 1939, heightened tensions arose between not only the Axis and Allied powers, but it also put pressure on negotiations between the Allies. Both Canadian and American wartime economies worked in tandem to maintain their contribution of weapons, food, and other supplies to aid in the defence of their Allies. This is in addition to providing armies, navies, and air force to the warfront. In Cook’s trademark style, this book examines the Canada/US cooperation and sacrifice to save the world from the fascist threat.

Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the Meaford Public Library (cash only).

Tim Cook is a frequent media commentator with regular appearances on CBC Radio’s The Current, As It Happens and Ideas, as well as TVO’s The Agenda and CTV’s Canada AM and Your Morning. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Canada and the Order of Canada.

His other novels include The Fight for History: 75 Years of Forgetting, Remembering, and Remaking Canada's Second World War, 1919: Canada Remade, Vimy the Battle and the Legend, and many more. His best-selling books have won multiple awards, including four Ottawa Book prizes for Literary Non-Fiction and two C.P. Stacey Awards for the best book in Canadian military history.

Signed copies of The Good Allies will be available for purchase at the event, provided by Jessica’s Book Nook of Thornbury. Cook’s other titles will also be available for purchase.
