Hanover Police developed Project Noisemaker in response to community concerns

Hanover Police logo

In response to community concerns and complaints, the Hanover Police Service have developed a traffic initiative called Project Noisemaker to address aggressive driving and loud mufflers.

Starting on May 12 until September 12, Hanover Police officers will be targeting aggressive drivers and vehicles with loud mufflers. Officers will be increasing enforcement efforts throughout this period to address these ongoing community concerns.

Vehicle owners are encouraged to fix any modified exhaust systems and refrain from using other devices that increase noise levels. Drivers found in violation are subject to charges under the Highway Traffic Act for offences such as Improper Muffler and Unnecessary Noise. These infractions carry set fines of $110 that could also lead to a court date for repeat and ongoing violators.

Essentially, if your motor vehicle is causing others to turn their heads because of the noise levels or windows to rattle as you approach and pass, expect to get stopped by police” says Chief Knoll.

Chief Knoll went on to state “Ensuring safety on our roads is a fundamental responsibility of the Hanover Police Service and all police services across Ontario. Our officers are committed to ensuring the rules of the road are followed and that those found in violation are held to account”.

Although Project Noisemaker concludes mid September, enforcement of these laws will continue. Its important for those with loud exhausts systems, no exhaust systems and modified exhaust systems to address these equipment issues before finding themselves in trouble with the law.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
