Hanover Police investigate fatal fail to remain collision involving pedestrian

Hanover police

June 11, 2025, at 5:20 pm, the Hanover Police Service, along with Grey County Paramedics and the Hanover Fire Department responded to a collision involving a pedestrian on 7th Avenue at the entrance to the Hanover Park.

The victim, a 66-year-old female identified as Sheila LAMONT of Hanover was struck as she crossed the street by a northbound vehicle that fled the scene at a high rate of speed. LAMONT was transported to the Hanover and District Hospital but succumbed to her injuries and died.

The investigation has determined the suspect vehicle is a 2007 red convertible Chrysler - PT Cruiser, and at the time of the collision, had Ontario licence plates CKPR 013 displayed. The PT Cruiser will have damage to the front end and the windshield.

Shortly before the collision, it was determined the suspect vehicle had travelled on Concession 2 SDR in the former Brant township, also known as the Southline. The vehicle went northbound past the Hanover and District Hospital onto 7th Avenue driving in an erratic manner before striking the pedestrian at the Hanover Park. After the collision, the suspect vehicle continued northbound on Bruce County Road 10, turning westbound on Concession 4 in the former Brant Township.

Hanover Police are being assisted by OPP traffic collision specialists and the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit. Investigators ask those with surveillance videos (home, business and dashcam) to check for the PT Cruiser from Concession 2 SDR (Southline) through Hanover on 7th Avenue and along Concession 4 in the former Brant Township between 5 p.m. and 5:45 pm.

Anyone with information on the driver, or the PT Cruiser is asked to contact the police immediately by calling 911. Police investigators are encouraging the driver to surrender to the Hanover Police Service and remind everyone that aiding this driver in anyway will result in a criminal prosecution.
