Municipal Open Air Burning (Fire) Ban issued for local municipalities

An Open-Air Burning ban has been issued for all municipalities in southern Grey County.

Chatsworth:

An Open-Air Burning ban has been issued for the Township of Chatsworth on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, and is in effect until further notice. This ban includes all open-air burning.

All issued Burn Permits are suspended at this time. Permits will be reinstated once the ban is lifted.

The Fire Ban includes campfires, agricultural burns, and open air burning of any kind.

This ban is issued under Municipal By –Law 2021-40, Sentence 2.3

“Notwithstanding the conditions in this By-law in which Open Air Burning is approved, the Fire Chief or Chief Fire Official or designate, shall have the authority to issue a burn ban under the conditions of drought, pandemic, state of emergency which would supersede all approvals to conduct Open Air Burning in accordance with this By-law. The Chief Fire Official, should weather conditions or circumstances require such action, may issue a Total Fire Ban and no person shall set a fire or allow a fire to burn.”

Grey Highlands:

A Fire Ban has been issued for the Municipality of Grey Highlands, effective Wednesday, June 7, 2023, until further notice.

Extremely dry conditions exist within the municipality, with no measurable rain forecasted. The Fire Ban includes all fires, including burn barrels and campfires.

Fire permits for open-air burning, bonfires, and burn barrels are suspended and not permitted until further notice.

The ban is issued under Municipal By-law 2020-046 Section 7(h): The Chief Fire Official or his/her designate may declare a total ban against outdoor burning when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fires hazardous.

Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Southgate:

A fire ban has been issued for the Municipality of Southgate on Wednesday June 7, 2023, and is in effect from 12:00 pm June 7, 2023, until further notice. This ban included ALL open-air burning.

All issued Burn Permits are suspended at this time. Permits will be reinstated once the ban is lifted.

The Fire Ban includes campfires, agricultural burns, open air burning of any kind and fireworks.

This ban is issued under Municipal By-Law 2020-070 Sec. 3.

3. Burn Ban:

3.1 The Chief Fire Official may at any time and without notice, declare a total ban against outdoor burning in the Municipality when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such fire hazardous.

3.2 If the Chief Fire Official issues a burn ban in the Municipality, any approved open-air permits are deemed automatically suspended until such time that the burn ban is lifted.

West Grey:

A fire ban has been issued for the Municipality of West Grey on Wednesday June 7, 2023, and is in effect from 8 a.m. on June 7, 2023, until further notice. This ban includes all open-air burning.

All issued burn permits are cancelled at this time. Permits will be extended once the ban is lifted.

The fire ban includes campfires, agricultural burns and open air burning of any kind.

This ban is issued under municipal bylaw 73-2008 section 3:

3. The Chief Fire Official or his/her designate, should weather conditions or circumstances require such action, may issue a Fire Ban, cancel all permits and no person shall set a fire or allow a fire to burn.
