A new state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) scanner is now operational at Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital, offering advanced imaging capabilities and improved patient comfort.
The new CT scanner began to serve patients earlier this week. Over the coming days, we will gradually ramp up to 100% capacity as we introduce this important upgrade to strengthen the care we provide to our communities.
“This investment in advanced diagnostic technology is an important step in enhancing the care we provide,” said Ann Ford, President and CEO. “The new CT scanner will allow us to serve patients across Grey Bruce more quickly and with even greater precision.
We are grateful to our patients and families for their patience and support during the transition to replace the former scanner and bring this one to full capacity.”
CT imaging is a critical diagnostic tool used across hospital departments, including the Emergency Department, inpatient care and outpatient services. It offers fast, cutting-edge imaging and enables doctors to quickly and accurately diagnose strokes, cancers,
internal injuries, infections and many other conditions. Brightshores introduced a second CT scanner at the Southampton Hospital in fall 2023.
More than 16,000 CT procedures are performed annually at Brightshores. The Owen Sound Hospital serves as the district stroke centre for our region. In addition to supporting patients as noted above, this new CT scanner will be a critical diagnostic tool for the regional stroke program.
“Medical imaging is often a crucial component in developing care plans for patients,” said Kathy Beattie, Director of Medical Imaging and Cardiology. “The new CT scanner enhances the image quality while decreasing the radiation exposure to patients, contributing to a more patient-centred care experience.”
Our foundations recently completed fundraising for this new machine. We are grateful to our foundations and the many donors for their support.
