On November 5, the Refugee Sponsorship Committee at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Owen Sound is hosting Refuge — a musical evening fundraiser. 100% of the proceeds will go to bringing a refugee family to Owen Sound.
“There are currently over 82 million displaced people worldwide. Many of these refugees await a permanent home for years. We have the opportunity to change the life of a refugee family,” says Colleen Greidanus, member of the St. Andrew’s Refugee Committee. “Our committee’s goal is to have such a family settled in Owen Sound by the end of this year.”
The concert will feature Paige Warner, recipient of the Owen Sound Art and Culture award, Jacob Corston, invitational artist at Summerfolk Youth discoveries, the Georgian Bay Children’s Choir and many other local talents; all of them donating their time and talents to this cause.
“I am so honoured to be part of this event that directly supports providing refuge for a family,” says Paige Warner, one of the evening’s headliners. “If listening to quality music in a beautiful building is a way to support this family, sign me up!”
The event will be hosted at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 865 2nd Ave. West, Owen Sound, on November 5 at 7pm, pay-what-you-can. The building is wheelchair accessible. For more information, contact Colleen Greidanus.
At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.
South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
