On July 2, 2024, the Grey Bruce OPP investigated a report of a break and enter to the former Markdale Hospital which has been closed since 2023. Police attended and observed that there was damage in the building and items stolen from the property. Damage to the property exceeds $100,000.00.

This is the second time the former hospital was broken into. The first time was October 2023 at which time a 4-foot and 6-foot ladder was stolen along with a garbage can and fire extinguisher.
The Grey Bruce OPP is asking the public to report any suspicious activity to the police.
