BY SOUTHGREY.CA — The time left to register as a candidate in the next municipal election, is running down. August 19 is the final date to declare candidacy and many Council positions remain up-for-grabs in Southern Grey County. Campaigns are underway to encourage more people to enter the races.

ElectHER NOW is offering resources in their 2022 Election Connections Program and soliciting participation in Let’s Chat activities. The group recruits and supports women candidates for all elected positions. This assistance is available to those who reside within the 17 municipalities of Grey Bruce. For more information, visit their website.

The Grey Highlands Municipal League is also putting the push on for more candidates to sign up in the Municipality of Grey Highlands election. They will be hosting an Election Info Session at Savvy Co. in Flesherton at 7 pm on Wednesday, August 10. Everyone is welcome to attend and learn more about getting involved in municipal politics. On August 24, the group will host a Meet the Candidates event at Justin's Oven in Kimberley at 7 pm. For more information about the group, visit VoteGrey.ca

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
