On January 23, 2025, at approximately 10:38 pm, the Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a robbery involving a firearm at a financial institution along Toronto Street North, Markdale.
Police attended the area, however the suspect fled prior to arrival. Investigation revealed that the victim was using the ATM at the location when they were approached and assaulted by the accused; who demanded the victim to withdraw funds from the ATM while brandishing a handgun.
Police were able to positively identify the accused through video su rveillance, where they were taken into custody on January 24, 2025. Assisting units included OPP Canine, West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Grey-Bruce OPP Crime Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services, Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad, and the OPP Regional Support Team (RST).
The involved weapon was seized and confirmed to be an imitation firearm.
As a result of the investigation, a 36-year-old of Alliston, has been charged with the following offences:
The accused was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
