A call to be kind — #ActforChange 2024 BBQ to kick off Mental Health Awareness Week

#ActforChange BBQ 2024

We all have the capacity to be compassionate, and we know that doing so can make an enormous difference. This year’s Mental Health Week (May 6 – 12) is centred on the healing power of compassion.

In a world plagued by suffering, the Canadian Mental Health Association emphasizes that kindness is equally intrinsic to our humanity. The Canadian Mental Health Association Grey Bruce Mental Health and Addiction Services (CMHA GB) is a non-profit, registered charity serving Grey and Bruce counties.

Driven by the values of compassion, dignity, inclusivity, integrity and choice CMHA GBs vision is that together we can create an inclusive community inspiring hope, choice and well-being for all.

On May 6, from 1 pm to 4 pm, the staff and management of Playtime Casino Hanover will host the #ActforChange 2024 BBQ. This is a community event for all to attend.

There will be a BBQ, information booths from both CMHA Grey Bruce as well as PlaySmart, a fundraising silent auction table and so much more.

Admission is by donation, with over $3,300 raised at the 2023 event to aid with community-funded programs of CMHA Grey Bruce.

This year, proceeds to benefit the Problem Gambling and CHOICES programs of CMHA Grey Bruce. Don Vail, Communications and Fund Development Manager for CMHA Grey Bruce, states that "the Act For Change BBQ is an invitation to the community to learn, engage, and contribute to meaningful change. It's an opportunity to come together, enjoy great food, participate in a silent auction, and most importantly, support and learn about vital CMHA programs for those impacted by mental illness and/or addiction."

For more information on this event, please contact Playtime Casino Hanover representative and Gateway Gives Champion Jennifer Sanderson at 519-364-7606 ext 3219 or via email at jennifer.sanderson@gatewaycasinos.ca.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a donation in lieu of a subscription fee and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
