Last month, MPP Rick Byers met with the executive members of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #333 Flesherton-Markdale to hear directly from them about the impact that their $39,700 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) has had. The awarded over two years ago has been used to update the Legion’s kitchen facilities and the building’s overall accessibility so that it will continue to provide the community with a modern, safe and functional space for veterans, seniors and other community groups.
“Congratulations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 333 Flesherton-Markdale on recognizing the Ontario Trillium Foundation grant that helped to update the Legion’s kitchen” said MPP Rick Byers, Bruce Grey Owen Sound.
Its kitchen facilities have been modernized, new appliances that include new ranges, commercial refrigerators and a commercial dishwasher have been purchased, new food storage and prep areas have also been refreshed with new counters and sinks too. The existing washrooms were enhanced to improve accessibility, and 40 new chairs were bought for the hall. The hall is used by a variety of community members and groups for meetings, celebrations, fundraisers and training venues.
“Thanks to the Ontario government’s Resilient Communities Fund grant through the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we can now accommodate and serve our community better,” said Darren Reid, President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #333 Flesherton-Markdale. “Without the support we received through this grant, we could not have done this project. This OTF grant has allowed us to provide our community with a modern and safe space.”
The mission of the Royal Canadian Legion is to serve Veterans, including serving military and RCMP members and their families, to promote Remembrance, and to serve our communities and our country.
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
