West Grey Public Library extends services as re-opening continues

The West Grey Public Library has moved to its next stage in re-opening to the public, and is happy to welcome back patrons and visitors for in-branch service.

Durham Branch re-opens for book browsing and selection starting September 22nd.  Branch hours are Tue 2-7 pm and Wed - Fri 10 am-4 pm. Computer and Wi-Fi access will be available by appointment by calling 519-369-2107.

A mask or face covering is required, and there will be limits on the maximum number of patrons admitted at a time.  Physical distance and hand hygiene measures are also in place.

The Library’s programs will include both online and in-person sessions. The Culture Days Art Re-Creation Challenge continues until October 23, where participants recreate a favourite work of art at home, photograph the result and send it on to the Library. There is a Hallowe’en Book Lovers’ Challenge too, for patrons to send in a photo of their book-inspired costumes.

Sew Smart Zoom in! program at West Grey Library

Zoom In! is a monthly online series that offers participants a chance to learn from a local expert and ask their own questions. October’s session is Sew Smart! This session is for those who know nothing about sewing but are interested in making their clothing budget go further by learning simple repairs and basic alterations.

The Zoom In! series continues with Sew Smart! on October 8th, and the Business Ready series offers About Time!, also via Zoom, on October 20th. In-person sessions for younger patrons include Yoga and Mindfulness for Back to School on September 29th, the LEGO Club on October 6th and Create Your Personal Book Jacket on October 20th, with one session for 5-11-years-olds and another for ages 12+. All youth programs take place at the Durham Town Hall, with social distancing measures in place. Registration required — call 519.369.2107 or message

Details and updates will be posted outside the branch, online through the Library’s Facebook account, and on the West Grey Library website

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a modest donation and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
