West Grey Police Service responded to 126 calls for service between July 30 and August 7.
Utter Threats / Assault
On the July 28, West Grey Police were dispatched to attend a Durham residence where a female reported that her husband had been threatening her as well as having been physically abusive. Subsequent to the investigation, police arrested a 43 year old Durham man. The accused was brought to the police station where he was processed and later released on conditions. The accused was given a court date of August 15 at the Walkerton Courthouse where he will answer to the charges of Uttering Threats and Assault. Drive Over 50mg
On August 4, police were dispatched to Concession 2 WGR in the area of the Varney Road regarding an abandoned vehicle. Police patrolled the area, located a vehicle parked on the side of the roadway and observed the driver's side door to be open. A male occupant was sleeping in the driver's seat and, woken by police presence, was found to have an odour of alcohol on his breath and an open beer in his cup holder. The man provided a breath sample and was found to have over 50 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. Subsequently, the occupant was issued an immediate 3 day driver’s license suspension and his driver's permit was seized. Further, the male was issued a Liquor License Act offence ticket for having open alcohol in the vehicle.
Break and Enter
On the May 31, West Grey Police entered into an investigation where it was alleged that four youths had entered a Glenelg area residence with the intent to assault another teenager. After a thorough investigation, police obtained reasonable grounds to believe that the youths did enter the residence without permission and with the intent to commit a criminal offence. All four youths have since been arrested and charged with break and enter. The youths were released on conditions and will answer to the charge at a future court date.
On August 4 police were dispatched to attend a campground in the Municipality of West Grey where a female reported that her partner had consumed numerous alcoholic beverages and had smoked marijuana when he became violent and forced the female onto the floor of their trailer. The accused pinned the victim’s shoulders down with his hands and started punching the floor around her head. The accused let the victim up and she went outside and called police. Police arrived on scene and arrested the male for one count of Assault. He was held for a bail hearing where he was released by way of recognizance. The accused will appear at the Walkerton Courthouse on August 15 to answer to the charge.
