BY SOUTHGREY.CA STAFF — There may be snow on the ground but that won't stop people from enjoying the sweet treats at MapleFest this weekend.
The Egremont Optimist Club presents the 24th Holstein Maplefest April 14 and 15 at Love's Sugar Bush, 392098 Grey Road 109, in Holstein Ontario.
Maplefest is a family event with lots of activities for everyone to enjoy.
Events kicked off with a fire burn on Friday, April 6, which held a sculpture inside. A metal Maple leaf designed by Tony Moore was inside a wood structure which was slowly revealed as it burned.
Strongman Mighty Mike will throw bowling balls and sledge hammers as if they were light as feathers and drives nails through boards with his hand.
Dickie Bird will put on a musical show for the young at heart with sing-a-long and action songs, tricks and illusions from the magic box.
Sheep Dogs will be herding sheep through gates, into fenced in enclosures following the direction of the professional sheep dog handler Viki Kidd.
In the sugar bush, there'll be free demonstrations and activities. Bee keeping, bird feeder building, log sawing and branding, candle making, ice cream and butter making, the Boy Scouts rope bridge, blacksmith, zip-line, tunnel slide, barn yard animals, sheep shearing and six different ways to make maple syrup from years ago to modern processing methods.
Pancake Breakfast is available all day, a craft sale will take place all weekend at the Optimist Centre, and Rib Night will take place Saturday night.
