Participants in a November 1 composting workshop aren't afraid of a little cold autumn earth as they practice composting techniques in the East Grey Community Health Centre garden in Markdale.
BY JOYCE HALL FOR SOUTHGREY.CA — On November 1, the Southeast Grey Community Health Centre (SEGCHC) held a composting workshop in Markdale. Guest presenter Simona Freibergova of the Meaford Community Garden outlined to ten participants the basics of composting. The group then took to the outdoors with tools and samples of compost to practice what they had learned. Crystal Ferguson of the CHC, who organized the workshop, explained, “We see this workshop and our community gardens as a small contribution towards increasing sustainability in Grey Highlands.”
Attendee Joyce Hall of the Grey Highlands Climate Action Group said, “Simona brought coffee grounds which she had collected from a coffee shop in Meaford. That’s the kind of initiative we’re looking for, to encourage people to reduce food waste throughout the community.”
