Volunteer Corner

by Madison Wickens, Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator

South East Grey Community Health Centre thanks all our dedicated volunteers for the hours they have spent helping out with our programs and services. You can read about our available volunteer opportunities and fun facts about volunteering. We will also showcase our 'Volunteer of the Month' right here!

Volunteer of the Month

South East Grey Community Health Centre would like to recognize our volunteer Carole Henderson. Carole is a new volunteer at the Health Centre, and works out of the Dundalk Location supporting Community Café, and does all of our grocery shopping. Carole’s enthusiasm, energy and creative ideas are why we are so happy to have her apart of our team. We are grateful for everything you have done for the Community Health Centre. Thank you Carole.

A Little About our Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator

Madison Wickens graduated the Recreation and Leisure Services program at Conestoga College in May and was hired at the SEGCHC as a Recreation and Volunteer Coordinator. During her two years at school she completed three placements; Tim Hortons Camp Counsellor, Langs Community Health Centre Youth Worker, and CNIB Special Event/Program Support. Madison was a summer student at the CHC in 2017, where she facilitated Summer Days of Play, organized Longest Day of Play, took on the task of the Client Satisfaction Surveys and 2018 Recreation and Leisure Guide. Madison is currently working on completing her Volunteer Management Course at Conestoga College online.

Madison’s Personal Philosophy Statement

I personally believe that each volunteer has their own individual skills and passions which make them unique. It is my desire as a Volunteer Coordinator to support volunteers in finding volunteer position(s) that will allow the opportunity to showcase and grow their skills. Without volunteers, communities and non-profit organizations would not be as successful. I believe volunteers should come with an open mind, positive attitude and the willingness to follow through on commitments.

For more information regarding volunteer opportunities contact Madison at 519 986 2222 ext 6349 or madison.wickens@segchc.ca

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.

Please consider supporting South Grey News with a modest donation and let us know that our efforts are appreciated. Thank you.
