Past warden calls for sober second thought on Grey Gables decision

Past warden calls for sober second thought on Grey Gables decision

To Warden and Grey County Council:

Thank you for the opportunity to present my input on the suggested changes in regard to long term care in Grey County.

  1. Fairness – Would moving beds from the Centre of Grey County to the west of the County, be fair to the people of the best, or centre of the County. I believe that serving all of the people equally is the most fair solution.
  2. I made mistakes in my years in politics. There were usually 2 reasons for those mistakes. 1 – Lack of, or incomplete information. 2 – Decisions made too quickly without enough options or questions presented. This looks like both.
  3. Grey Gables was designed and built for expansion. The County already owns adequate land for any possible addition.
  4. The County should not fear the province taking beds away. Has the Province ever removed beds from any Upper Tier Government? If so, when and why?
  5. I would strongly suggest that County Council delay any final decision on closing any homes at this time.
  6. There needs to be a minimum 6 month delay on any final decisions to ensure that all options have been made available and the public has been heard. There appears to be some urgency by the County to finalize this decision. I do not understand why. Do not be afraid to challenge the province.

Past Warden Howard Greig

We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
