New year? New plan? Fresh start? South East Grey Community Health Centre can help

As the clock strikes 12 this New Year’s Eve, many new diets, exercise regimes and other such commitments are promised by millions of well-intentioned people around the world.

In fact, early January is one of the busiest times of year in the fitness industry. For many it seems like an optimal time to implement changes that will have positive impacts on your life in the year ahead. 

But New Year's resolutions have a way of falling by the wayside as time progresses. Sticking with your healthy resolutions is a matter of self discipline but it can be much easier to continue when you join a supportive group, like any of the offered programs at South East Grey Community Health Centre (SEGCHC).

SEGCHC is one of the best kept local secrets in health care and quite possibly, just the ticket you need to make those resolutions a reality this time around.

The local non-profit organization provides community programs and services at their facilities in Markdale and Dundalk, run by trained professionals and yes, absolutely free of charge. All ages are welcome to join most programs and there is a variety of activities from which to choose. 

SEGCHC has partnered with dieticians and fitness providers and is funded by local government, donors and community groups, providing access to healthy living for all residents in Grey Highlands. Some of the programs currently offered at their main facility at 55 Victoria Avenue in Markdale or their Erskine Presbyterian Church location at 90 Artemesia Street in Dundalk include:

  • Indoor walking for improved health and strengthening of bones and muscles
  • Chair fitness for cardiovascular fitness, balance, and muscular strength
  • Yoga for strength, flexibility, balance and range of motion
  • Tai Chi for strength, flexibility and breathing
  • Pilates for strength, posture and a better sense of well-being
  • Pickle ball combining the skills of ping pong, tennis and badminton
  • Community café for coffee, snacks and conversation

But many programs change throughout the year. Depending on the season, you may also find:

  • Bereavement support

  • Community gardening

  • Cooking classes

  • Craving change
  • 
Diabetes sit & get fit
  • Income tax preparation

  • Mindfulness meditation

  • Skills upgrades
