March Break is right around the corner and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained in West Grey, Southgate and Grey Highlands.
KIDS CREATE AT THE DURHAM ART GALLERY
At the Durham Art Gallery children are being invited to “Create in The Realm of Fantasy” between Monday, March 11 and Friday, March 15 with creative leader Anna Gruda.
Children can register for the entire week or drop for morning, afternoon or daily sessions. The cost is $100 for members, $120 for non-members, $35 for a day or $20 for a half-day (from 9 to 11:30 a.m. or 12:30 to 3 p.m.). Lunch and snacks are not provided.
On Monday morning participants will design their own dragons and other magical creatures, using drawing and painting skills and in the afternoon the theme with be lost realms, legendary places, landscapes and fantasy building.
Tuesday morning will see children using their drawing and painting skills to create unicorns and other magical creatures and the afternoon theme is colours of the rainbow.
On Wednesday morning participants will make a small dragon puppet out of cardboard or papier-mâché. In the afternoon there will be a large dragon puppet group project with both constructing and painting.
Thursday morning children will design their own castles (drawing, constructing and painting) and in the afternoon participants will work as a group to build a large castle out of cardboard.
On Friday morning children will be designing an avatar with human proportions to illustrate superhuman powers and the afternoon will be spent working on a group castle project.

CELEBRATE DR SEUSS
Library branches in West Grey are celebrating Dr Seuss’s birthday during March Break with games, crafts and stories.
The celebration will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Ayton Branch and on Thursday, March 14 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Neustadt Branch and from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Elwood Branch.
WEST GREY LIBRARY EVENTS
On Tuesday, March 12 there is a story time at the Ayton Branch of the West Grey Library, between 10:30 and noon, for children up to the age of 6. Presented by the library and EarlyOn, the event features stores, crafts and songs.
On Wednesday, March 13, between 10 and 11 a.m. a similar program of stories, crafts and songs for children up to the age of 6 will be held at the Durham Branch of the West Grey Library.
Create with LEGO and LitteBits technology at the Durham Branch on March 13, between 4 and 4:45 p.m. Participants will create their own mini golf course.
Team T & J Performance will be at the gym at St Peter’s and St Paul’s School in Durham on Monday, March 11, 10 to 11 a.m. The free event is being held in partnership with EarlyOn.
REPTILES IN DURHAM
On Wednesday, March 13 a Reptile Show will be presented at the Durham Arena Community Centre between 1 and 11 a.m. The free event is also being sponsored by EarlyOn.
ROLLER SKATING IN NEUSTADT
Friday, March 8 and Friday, March 15 there is family roller skating at the Neustadt Arena between 7 and 9:30 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults, 12 and under $2, skate rentals are $2.
On Tuesday, March 12 there is a special sponsored skate from 2 to 4 p.m. No charge admission and skate rentals are free.
BOOK SALE IN DURHAM
The Friends of the Library Book Sale is being held at the Durham Branch of the West Grey Library on Friday, March 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, March 16 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
ICE SKATING IN WEST GREY
A series of free sponsored ice skates will happen at arenas in West Grey during March Break. Tuesday, March 12 at the Durham arena from 12 to 1:30 p.m. and at the Normanby Arena from 3 to 4:30 p.m. On Wednesday, March 13 at the Durham arena from 12 to 1:30 p.m. On Thursday, March 14 at the Normanby Arena from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and on Friday, March 15 at the Durham Arena from 12 to 1:30 p.m.
LEGO CLUB & STORY TIME IN DUNDALK
In the Township of Southgate there is the regular LEGO club at the Ruth Hargrave Memorial Library in Dundalk, held the second Wednesday of each month between 3:40 and 4:30 p.m. There is also a baby story time on Fridays between 9 and 11 a.m. at the Dundalk Library, hosted by Kids & Us Ontario Early Years.
TEEN MUSIC & SKATE
The Southgate Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is inviting teenagers in Grades 9 to 12 to skate to music videos between 2 and 4 p.m. on March 11. The $2 fee includes free hot chocolate.
Friends of Pickle Ball, Mount Forest is inviting Southgate and West Grey residents to try pickle ball on Tuesday, March 12 between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The league is always looking for new members. Pickle ball is held at the Victory Community Centre, 320 King Street, Mount Forest and is open to all ages. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Tuesday, March 12 there is a story time at the Flesherton Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for children up to age 5. A similar event will be held at the Walter Harris Memorial Library in Markdale on Friday, March 15 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
LEGO AT THE LIBRARY
Also on Tuesday is a drop-in activity at the Markdale Library between 10:30 a.m. and noon. Those between the ages of 5 and 12 are invited to build LEGO creations with library LEGO. It is not a supervised program but is free of charge.
This activity repeats at the Flesherton Library between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15.
FLOAM AND SNOW
Wednesday, March 13 “FLOAM Flesherton” is coming to the Flesherton Library between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. For a $3 fee, children between the ages of 6 and 12 are invited to “get trapped in a snow globe and make a moldable slime called Floam."
There will also be snow-themed games and a snack.
The event, renamed "FLOAM Markdale," is set to repeat on Friday, March 15 at the Walter Harris Memorial Library from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in Markdale.
Pre-registration is required.
SCRATCH CODE CLUB
Scratch Code Club is at the Flesherton Library on Wednesday, March 13 from 10:30 until noon and at the Markdale Library on Thursday, March 14 from 10:30 to noon. Participants, between the ages of 7 and 13 will learn to code on a computer with Scratch and will also program a musical instrument. The sessions are free but pre registration in required.

MAGIC & COMEDY AT FLESHERTON KINPLEX
A special program is also being offered on Thursday, March 14. Peter Mennie, known as “that Magic Guy”, will be at the Flesherton Kinplex at 10:30 a.m. No registration is required. The show is for all ages and admission is $2. The magician will “leave adults and children in awe of his magic and his comedy will leave you in stitches.”
