Trillium grant brings Kimberley Hall fundraising past the halfway mark



The Kimberley Community Association (KCA) have received an Ontario Trillium Fund Grant in the amount of $55,000. This money is to be applied exclusively to the Kimberley Hall Accessibility Project which is currently raising funds to make the two story building accessible on all floors.

The welcomed news arrived on April 12. Combined with $25,000 received from the sale of the Duncan Hall and just over $8,000 raised so far by the KCA, the total has reached $88,000. "While this is a significant amount, it is still short of what is required to achieve our final goal," said KCA President Ron Auckland.

KCA member Ray MacDonald said the target funding for the elevator is approximately $120,000 but with ancillary items such as accessibility washrooms, ramps and automated doors, the price tag is closer to $160,000. Their current funds put them past the half way point. "We are about to begin a campaign to involve local business asking for corporate donations," said MacDonald. "Depending on the outcome of pending grant applications we are targeting possibly 2019," he added. 

"This grant would not have been possible without the hard work of the KCA Accessibility Committee and the full support of the Municipality of Grey Highland (MGH) Council and Staff, in particular, CAO Rob Adams and Kate Russell, Municipal Services Assistant, Office of the CAO Special Projects," said Auckland.

The group is tracking their fundraising progress with a sign posted on the front of the Hall in Kimberley so that the public keep updated on their efforts. The group will continue to partner with the MGH to take advantage of other grant possibilities. They also continue to hold fundraising events throughout the year.

At 7 pm on Saturday, April 28, the KCA will host Trivia Night at the Kimberley Hall. Grey Highlands Councillor Terry Mokriy will Emcee the event with Comedy as the theme. Tickets are available individually, making up a team table of 8; or groups can form their own 8 member team. The cost is $10 per person with a cash bar, raffle and prizes for best team theme costumes. For tickets or more information, email Ron Auckland at
