Homicide investigation leads to arrest of West Grey man

A 57-year old West Grey man has been charged with second degree murder following an investigation in Brockton.

On January 4 members of the South Bruce OPP responded to a residence at Concession 4 East Brant in the Municipality of Brockton for an injured male.

South Bruce OPP and Bruce County Paramedic Services located a male with no vital signs. He was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The male has been identified as 53-year old Steven Berfelz of Brockton.

On January 5 police arrested 57-year old Ronald Seifried of West Grey. He was charged with second degree murder.

Members of the South Bruce OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of OPP Emergency Response Team, Technical Collision Investigation and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate under the direction of Detective Inspector Randy Gaynor, OPP Criminal Investigation Branch.

The accused appeared by video at the Ontario Court of Justice in London on January 5 where he was remanded into custody. A subsequent court appearance has been scheduled in Walkerton.
