FROM A JANUARY 9 GREY BRUCE HEALTH SERVICES MEDIA RELEASE — Grey Bruce Health Services has recently submitted its Stage 4.1 documentation to the Ministry of Health - the second last approval step prior to starting construction of the new hospital for Markdale and the Centre Grey community.
GBHS’s latest submission contains over 300 detailed architectural drawings, including plans for the interior and exterior electrical, mechanical, interior and exterior building materials, and signage for the new hospital.
“It’s an exciting time – years of hard work has come together to complete this submission, and we’re now only one approval away from issuing bids for construction,” said Gary Sims, GBHS President and CEO. “Thanks in large part to the tenacity and generosity of this community and its donors, we will have a well-designed facility that ensures excellent care is available in this area for decades to come.”
GBHS expects to hear back from the Ministry on the Stage 4.1 submission by the end of Spring, 2020. Once approval is received, the project will move into the Tender and Award stage, at which time general contractors will be invited to submit bids.
The build is expected to cost $65 million and will include 68,000 square feet of space and will include four acute care beds, a palliative care room, 24/7 emergency room with four exam and treatment areas, laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, physiotherapy, space for ambulatory care clinics, and two ambulance bays.
Construction of the new hospital is expected to begin in late 2020 and will take approximately two years to complete.
