Suspect arrested after a foot chase through Hanover backyards

Hanover, Ontario police badge.

On April 25, 2025, shortly after 4 pm, Hanover officers spotted a wanted male suspect west of the P&H Centre near 7th Avenue and 5th Street in the Town of Hanover. The suspect fled on foot through backyards and was pursued by officers.

To escape the police and avoid arrest, the suspect stole a bicycle from a residence in the 200 block of 7th Avenue and fled the area. The area was searched; however, the suspect was not located.

On April 26, 2025, shortly before 3 am, Hanover officers on patrol again spotted the wanted male suspect in the 200 block of 8th Street in Hanover with a flashlight. He was again pursued on foot by officers through backyards and was arrested within minutes.

Officers seized tools from the suspect that included, a grinder, flashlights, knives and pliers.

As a result of the investigation, the 35-year-old Hanover man of no fixed address was charged with Theft Under x 2, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000, Possession of Break-in Instruments, Trespass by Night and Breach of Probation x 5.

The suspect was remanded into custody at his bail hearing and scheduled to appear again in Walkerton Court later this week.

The arrest of this suspect was a great example of engaged and focused patrol by officers who are committed to ensuring the safety of our community at all hours of the day and night.

The Hanover Police Service are reminding everyone to secure their valuables, consider registering their surveillance cameras on the Camsafe.ca website and report anyone that is acting suspiciously in their neighbourhood.

At South Grey News, we endeavour to bring you truthful and factual, up-to-date local community news in a quick and easy-to-digest format that’s free of political bias. We believe this service is more important today than ever before, as social media has given rise to misinformation, largely unchecked by big corporations who put profits ahead of their responsibilities.

South Grey News does not have the resources of a big corporation. We are a small, locally owned-and-operated organization. Research, analysis and physical attendance at public meetings and community events requires considerable effort. But contributions from readers and advertisers, however big or small, go a long way to helping us deliver positive, open and honest journalism for this community.
