Open 7 days a week, Eckhardt's Shell, Variety and Lunchroom is a vital member of Durham's business community and has been an important local gathering place for 45 years. Partners Phil, Art and Lorna Eckhardt established the business in 1973.
Today, the humble little store still serves gas, lunch, lottery tickets, groceries, phone cards and more. The Lunchroom provides fresh baked goodies and delicious takeout items or sit-down service. The business also offers a Mr. Inkbee Ink & Toner Cartridge drop off service and according to Art, "the best coffee in the area."
On Friday, August 31, the occasion of the business' 45th year birthday was marked. Coincidentally, Lorna and Art also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the same day. The Eckhardt’s celebrated these milestones in the afternoon with family and friends from the local community and a special visit from West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles who presented a plaque and honoured this occasion.
Also on hand was Bill Walker, MPP Grey Bruce Owen Sound. Larry Miller, MP Grey Bruce Owen Sound, stopped in to pay a special visit to Art and Lorna on the following Saturday.
Lorna and Art Eckhardt accept official congratulations from Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker.
Located on Grey Road 4 just east of Durham, the Eckhardts are proud to have served the Durham community for 45 years and will continue to offer service excellence to their customers for many years to come.
