BY KRISTY GOSS FOR SOUTHGREY.CA — On Saturday June 29, Catherine & Gary Braniff opened the gates to their beautiful country property on Concession 2 in Durham, ON to over 50 curious and excited flower enthusiasts.

Guests were invited to come out and see all that grows around the vast property, and were treated to a personal guided tour of the gardens, complete with complimentary cold drinks, & a BBQ lunch. Signs directed visitors around the property through rolling grass, shaded trails and hidden gardens to discover secret hideaways boasting natural beauty and prize winning blooms.

Numerous varieties of peonies, fragrant shrubs, clematis, roses, interesting succulents and dozens of varieties of brightly coloured perennials highlighted the tour. A romantic white garden set in the far corner of the property also treated guests to some much needed shade on this picture perfect summer day.

Aside from the plentitude of plants, visitors delighted in the many unique additions to the garden, from sparkling lights, whimsical buildings, ornate decorations, repurposed trinkets and treasures, to fun signs, secret fairy villages and birdbaths, feeders, and birdhouses teeming with life.

There are endless things to see here.
A sandy beach, fountains, tall grass and gardens sit on the edge of one the property's greatest features, the pond. In the corner, bright pink water lilies spill onto blue green water, and a bridge invites you onto the island to see more of the property's finest flowers. Rainbow trout leap from dancing waters. A family of 5 Canada Geese paddle by. Bumble bees sit atop lavender-coloured flowers. This really is a natural paradise.

Inspired guests also had the opportunity to recreate some of the magic, by purchasing some of the same plants on the property at a small plant sale at the top of the hill.
