Come celebrate Christmas in West Grey

There are plenty of events happening in West Grey to get you and yours in the holiday spirit and it all gets underway Saturday, November 17 in the village of Ayton.


The annual tree lighting and an afternoon of family fun will get underway at 4 p.m. and run until 7 p.m.

At the Ayton Fire Hall, 610 Albert Street, from 4 to 6 p.m., enjoy a free horse drawn wagon ride around the village (pick up across from the library, Main Street). Christmas music will fill the air during the afternoon.

From 4 to 5 p.m. enter your favourite chili recipe for the chili cook-off. Warm refreshments and cookies will be for sale.

Then from 6 to 7 p.m. join in a Christmas sing-along led by Sharon Machina with the Queen's Bush Chorus & the Holstein Belles, followed by the tree lighting in front of the Library. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served in the Fire Hall to complete the day.


At the Normanby Arena, 112102 Grey Road 3, on November 17 visit the Ayton Lioness Club's Olde Curiosity Shoppe and visit with Santa from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Then from 7 to 8:30 p.m. enjoy free family skating. 

Sponsored by the Normanby Recreation Committee with assistance from several local groups. Donations toward Community Betterment most welcome.


The Durham Santa Claus Parade gets underway on Saturday, December 1 from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

This year's theme is Christmas on the Farm and prizes will be awarded for best floats, best horses and best costumes.

Visit with Santa Claus at the Fire Hall following the parade. 

Sponsored by the Durham Firefighters Association.


Join the Village of Neustadt on Sunday, December 2 at 5 p.m. for the Santa Claus Parade and head to the arena afterward to visit with Santa and participate in rollerskating. 


Then on Sunday, December 9, celebrate a West Grey Family Christmas at the Durham Arena, 451 Saddler Street West from noon until 1 p.m.

Create wonderful family memories with Santa and his crew. Enjoy some games, activities and skating. Free refreshments and treats. 

Families can enter their names into a draw for Christmas food hampers.

To receive a special gift from Santa, West Grey residents can pre-register their children, ages 10 years & under.
