Located on the Saugeen River in the County of Grey, the settlement of Hanover began in 1894 and was incorporated as a town in 1904. With a population of about 7,650 residents, Hanover has grown into a bustling community of retailers, factories and farms and was once known as the furniture capital of Canada.

Its many amenities include the Hanover Gateway Casino and the Hanover Racetrack, both with improved facilities and increased purses combined with the excitement of on-site slots.

Hanover has many active Community Organizations who give their time and energy to worthy causes and events. A full list is available on Hanover.ca.

Hanover Town Park and Campground is located on the banks of the Saugeen River and offers 40 fully serviced campsites. Fishing, picnicking and special events are just some of the entertaining things to do and see.

Points of interest include Live Theatre and Concert presentations, a successful Brewery, and one of Canada’s 37 remaining Drive-In Theatres. It has a library, an indoor pool and arena, curling rink, lawn bowling and tennis court, and is home to the Junior C hockey team, the Hanover Barons. It is also known as a shopping hub for the surrounding communities boosting many major retailing chains within its boundary.

The Hanover Chamber of Commerce has been representing the businesses of Hanover and area since 1955 and continues to play an active role in promoting business and addressing the concerns of the business community.

The HCC supports its members and participates in several annual promotions, partnering with the Hanover Downtown Improvement Area and the Town of Hanover. Working with partners for greater buying power, Chamber members receive many discounts including Dental Discount Cards for their employees and family through the Teeth First Dental Discount Card Program. Chamber of Commerce Group Insurance is also available as an option to each member, providing affordable and flexible coverage.

Members can also take advantage of a one-time subsidy to assist with the purchase of a portable ramp providing access for the disabled, to Chamber businesses. Several promotional opportunities are also available at many Chamber-sponsored events.

The Hanover Chamber Buck Program is thriving, with over $176,000 sold. Chamber bucks can be redeemed at over 50 participating Chamber members.

Members can stay connected throughout the year, attending Luncheon and Breakfast Meetings, Speaker Events and the Annual HCC Road Trip. Chamber Members host 'Business After 5 Socials' featuring a facility tour and refreshments while highlighting their business. The spotlight event is our Annual Chamber Golf Tournament, held each September, bringing members out of the office and on to the greens for some serious networking.

Every year, the HCC celebrates outstanding citizens, businesses, community volunteers and outstanding youth at its HCC Awards Celebration.

The HCC operates a very popular Hanover Chamber Bucks program. The certificates spend like cash at any of over 50 participating businesses in Hanover. They can be used as door or draw prizes, or employee bonuses and make great gifts too.

The HCC will be represented by Norma Graham, Assistant Librarian for the Hanover Public Library and HCC Secretary. Norma has worked in public libraries for twenty years, wearing many hats, including adult collection development and management, cataloguing, Interlibrary Loan, adult events planning, and fundraising. She will advocate for From the Ashes: My Story of Being Métis, Homeless, and Finding My Way by Jesse Thistle.
