Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing and self defence.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art adapted from Kodokan Judo which focuses on grappling with your opponent on the ground.
By applying proper technique and leverage, BJJ practitioners can neutralize their counterpart using joint locks and chokeholds. BJJ is the best self defence
against a bigger, stronger or heavier foe. Submission techniques learned from a qualified martial arts teacher can
help a much smaller and weaker practitioner to achieve a dominant position on the ground. Unlike Karate or Taekwondo
which use punching, kicking or striking techniques, BJJ is one of the safest full-contact combat sports because of
its low impact grappling maneuvers. When you learn Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Bowler’s BJJ, your progress will continue
at a pace that’s right for you. Beginners will engage in technique drills against a non-resisting partner. As you
gain more confidence, you will practice positional drilling using a specific set of techniques to gain an advantage
over your opponent. More advanced students will spar with each other using techniques learned in class to overcome
their opponent.
Kickboxing
Kickboxing is a hybrid martial art, a mixture of Karate and Boxing techniques.
It was developed for self defence and has become a popular combat sport around the world. Also used for general fitness, it provides an extremely good
workout. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing were combined to create mixed martial arts (MMA), a combat sport made popular
by the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Self Defence for Women
Bowler’s BJJ maintains a female-friendly training gym. Classes occur in a co-ed format.
Females learn to employ grappling techniques against generally larger males in a safe environment, thus providing proper women’s self defence instruction.
We are also proud to offer limited Female Self Defence Classes. These one-time events allow women to train together
in an all female environment where they can learn self defence techniques that defend against the most common attacks
they might face. Such techniques include holds, chokes, hair pull, wrist grabs, hostage attacks, mounted ground and
weapon attacks. Check our events list for upcoming dates.
Self Defence for Kids
Kids benefit immensely from martial arts training. Your child will be able to protect themselves against bullies.
They will also learn self-discipline, build self-confidence and a healthier body. Kids are taught to avoid fighting at all costs but when confrontation
cannot be avoided, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the perfect self defence. While many other martial art disciplines fail to
equip students with ground fighting techniques, BJJ is ideal for a smaller person who needs to defend themselves against
a larger adversary. Focusing primarily on gaining a better leveraging position than their opponent, students will be
taught stand-up maneuvers as well as techniques that can be used on the ground. Kids also feel an amazing sense of
accomplishment when they are able to recreate some of these maneuvers and techniques.
Bootcamps
Bowler’s BJJ offers a fun and interactive Boot Camp for general self defence and fitness.
Packed into a short timeframe, it is a great fitness workout for all who participate. Students will learn how to block and evade attackers along with maneuvers
that will enhance the development of core strength. Basic BJJ techniques are also taught within a safe and friendly
environment. Watch our coming events list for dates and times.
